Profile Bio
I am a retired Commercial Helicopter Pilot, Instructor, Examiner and Instructor Trainer with over 20 years and 7,500 hours of onshore helicopter flying experience. I ran my own helicopter company based at Cambridge airport for most of my career and flew sorties that included commercial charter, photography and filming tasks, geographical surveys and critical component delivery. In addition to being a pilot I have worked in Merchant Banking, as a DJ, MC, Entertainer and Event Commentator and I am also a serial quiz show contestant.
Talk Description
Adventures in Helicopters
Tales of the places and sorties I flew in my career as a civilian commercial helicopter pilot and instructor. Illustrated with videos and aerial photos, I tell light hearted stories about the people I met and the places I saw.
Other Talks
The Development of Helicopters - History and Technical evolution of rotary flight and the design challenges that exist. Slightly more technical but still light hearted.
Blood and Ashes - Tales of a helicopter tour around the UK attempting to recruit new blood donors and the role my company played in unlocking North Atlantic airspace following the grounding of all flights caused by the Icelandic Volcanic Ash Cloud.
A Mixed Bag of Fish - Nothing to do with helicopters, it is a collection of the humorous anomalies found in the English language and their effect on our national sense of humour. It includes mixed metaphors, monologues, funny poems and malapropisms.
