Profile Bio
Thank you for visiting my entry on this Speaker Finder site. I have considerable experience as a public speaker, and was formerly President of Bristol Speakers Club. So why choose me as your speaker?
Firstly, I realise the job of a Speaker Secretary involves trying to fill mutliple slots with many speakers, so I will always respond to any enquiry with great urgency. My second aim with any talk is to make the Speaker Secretary delighted with their choice of speaker. To do this, all of my talks are thoroughly researched so that only the most interesting, informative and entertaining material is included. Here are some of the testimonials I have been privileged to receive;
"You certainly covered a lot of ground, your engaging story telling style was much enjoyed with all the anecdotes and snippets of information backed up by some unique photos" Stratford sub Castle Guild.
"Many thanks for your spell binding talk today, it was so interesting and full of facts, I learnt a great deal, I hope it won't be too long before you return" Waterlooville Probus Committee
Talk Description
Ghosts Royals and Ferrymen
A much neglected part of our transport heritage, Britain's small ferries were once an essential component of our transport network. Bridges, tunnels and cars have steadily forced them into extinction. In 1990, and since, I have set out a personal mission to make a photographic record of those surviving before they're gone forever.
As a consequence, I have a vast resource of unique images, amusing anecdotes and compelling history which I have woven into an entertaining and informative presentation.
What has surprised me with this talk is the nostalgia it evokes, for a ferry seems to have been part of many people's lives at some point in their past. A firm favourite that always raises a few laughs.
Other Talks
The Search for Great Grandmothers Farm.
A fusion of my family history, the search for said Farm, and a glimpse into life behind the Iron Curtain. My Great Grandparents, living in Prussia, suffered immense challenges through their lives and at the end of each of the two world wars. Both absorbing and entertaining, this talk contains insights into life within a communist regime from people who were there!
The Search for the North West Passage
A stark contrast between an unsuccessful Royal Navy explorer who recieved false acclaim, and a privateer who never recieved the credit he was due in his lifeltime. But what is the North West Passage, and why was it so sought after in Victorian Society? This talk answers all of those questions.
