About Bert Flitcroft

Whether it’s soul mates, shopping at Sainsbury’s, sex, the sixties, Peppa Pig, gardening childhood, politics…. Bert’s poetry has something for everyone, and there’s nothing he likes better than the chance to share his poetry with a lively audience.

Bert was Staffordshire Poet Laureate 2015-17 and has three collections of poetry published: ‘Singing Puccini at the kitchen sink’, ‘Thought-apples’, and ‘JUST ASKING’. He has been Poet in Residence at the Southwell Poetry Festival and has performed at a number of national festivals including, amongst others, The Edinburgh International Book Festival, Birmingham, Lichfield, Ilkley, Stoke, Buxton, and has read at The Door at The Birmingham Rep, as well as the CBSO Centre and The Conservatoire in Birmingham.
He has worked as resident poet with one of our ‘National Treasures’, The Wedgwood Collection at the V&A; as resident poet with the prestigious R.I.B.A exhibition ‘The Road Less Travelled’; and recently as part of the University of Keele project ‘Labelling the Museum’.

His latest poetry collection ‘JUST ASKING’ has wonderful endorsements from Daljit Nagra (Resident poet at BBC Radio 4) Jonathan Edwards (Faber and Faber, Costa Prize winner) and multi-award winning, international poet Roger Elkin.

Critics have described it as “…served up with compassion and the bite of wit…linguistically alive… …insightful, highly enjoyable, deeply rewarding poems…. a collection to savour, cherish and re-read….a strongly individual poetic voice, whose wisdom is both worldly and warm… poems that grab you by the scruff of the neck and drag you into their world…”
